Jessica Martin – Preschool/Kindergarten (Co-Head Teacher)

Jessica has been a teacher at DVMS since 2001. She graduated from St. Mary’s College in 2001 with a bachelor degree in Child Psychology. She then received her Montessori certificate in 2005 from the Montessori Teacher Education Center, San Francisco Bay Area. Jessica is a native to the Bay Area and enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with her family.

Brittney Braselton- Preschool/Kindergarten (Co-Head Teacher)

Brittney holds a BA in Human Development with a specialization in Child Development from Cal State East Bay. She received her Montessori Teaching Credential from FMAE in 2019 and has been involved in Montessori education since 2015. Brittney is a Bay Area native and resides with her husband Derek, their gigantic cat (Buster), and their newborn son! Brittney also loves reading, hiking ,and fitness classes.

Alma Sanchez –Preschool/Kindergarten (Lead Teacher)

Born and raised in Mexico, Alma Sanchez is a dedicated and hard-working teacher’s assistant. Being a mother of three, she developed a passion to work with and help young children. Aspiring to pursue her passion, she enrolled in Early Childhood Development (ECD) classes at a local junior college and has acquired several units. Along the way, she has taught Spanish for 12 years at local elementary schools. Alma joined DVMS in 2011 and is currently an assistant teacher in our Honeysuckle classroom. Aside from work, she enjoys hiking, dancing, traveling and visiting her family in Mexico.

Courtney Mathews – Preschool/Kindergarten (Assistant Teacher)

Courtney was first introduced to the Montessori philosophy when her children began school at the age of three. Throughout the past 24 years, she has been an assistant teacher in many Montessori schools in California, Florida and Virginia. In addition to teaching in the classroom, Courtney has taught after school cooking classes (4 -years -old to adult), created a children’s cookbook and was a personal chef for the past 11 years. During her free time, Courtney enjoys traveling, cooking and spending time with her family and friends.

Shawna Comiskey- Preschool/Kindergarten (Assistant Teacher)

Shawna grew up in the San Joaquin Valley and studied Early Childhood Education. She began her career in education working as a Substitute teacher and became a Head teacher by the age of 19. Shawna lived in San Francisco for 10 years, working as a teacher and also spent time working as a nanny. Later, Shawna lived in the Netherlands, where she went to school to learn the Dutch language and about the Dutch culture. She spent two years working in a preschool in the Netherlands before moving back to the U.S. in 2005. Shawna received her Montessori certification through Fountainhead Montessori. Shawna also went back to DVC to take additional Early Childhood Education classes as well as three years of Sign Language. In 2010, she began teaching at DVMS as a long-term Substitute and is now the Buttercup Head Teacher (half day two-year-olds) and is an Assistant Teacher in the Daisy class. Shawna is currently living in Martinez with her husband and two cats. In her spare time, she loves doing crafts, cooking, and traveling with her husband.
